Frequently asked questions about Marinite
What is Marinite insulation board?
What is Marinite insulation board?
Marinite is a non-asbestos calcium silicate insulation board manufactured by BNZ Materials. It is used in fire doors, oven housings, furnace linings, and structural fire protection applications. Marinite is available in five density grades — A, C, I, M, and P — rated for service temperatures from 1200°F to 1500°F depending on grade. BNZ Materials has permanently closed their production facility, and Marinite is no longer being manufactured.
Is Marinite still available to buy?
Is Marinite still available to buy?
Yes — AWMCO stocks remaining BNZ Marinite inventory across multiple grades. This is final inventory and will not be replenished once sold. AWMCO also stocks Super Firetemp, a Johns Manville calcium silicate board that replaces Marinite in most applications and is available with monthly restocking.
What is the best replacement for Marinite?
What is the best replacement for Marinite?
Super Firetemp, manufactured by Johns Manville, is the recommended replacement for most Marinite grades. It is a calcium silicate insulation board meeting ASTM C656 Type II standards, available in five density grades from 20 to 55 pcf, and rated for service temperatures to 1700°F–1800°F. AWMCO stocks Super Firetemp with monthly restocking. See the grade-by-grade comparison pages above for specific Marinite-to-Super Firetemp equivalencies.
What is the difference between Marinite A, C, I, M, and P?
What is the difference between Marinite A, C, I, M, and P?
The five Marinite grades differ primarily in density and maximum service temperature. Marinite A (65 pcf, 1500°F) is the densest grade and is suitable for molten aluminum contact applications. Marinite C (54 pcf, 1400°F) and Marinite I (46 pcf, ~1350-1400°F) are mid-density structural boards for fire doors and enclosures. Marinite M (46 pcf, 1200°F) is a general-purpose structural grade. Marinite P (60 pcf, 1200°F) is a high-load structural panel. Contact AWMCO to confirm availability of each grade.
Does Marinite contain asbestos?
Does Marinite contain asbestos?
No. Modern Marinite calcium silicate boards are non-asbestos. Older Marinite products manufactured before approximately 1980 may have contained asbestos — if you are working with legacy materials, verify the manufacturing date before handling. All Marinite inventory stocked by AWMCO is non-asbestos.
