Marinite® Calcium Silicate Insulation
— Grades, Specs, and What Comes Next

Marinite is a non-asbestos calcium silicate insulation board manufactured by BNZ Materials, widely used in fire doors, oven housings, furnace linings, and structural fire protection applications. BNZ Materials has permanently closed, and Marinite production has ended. AWMCO — an authorized distributor for both BNZ Materials and Johns Manville — holds remaining inventory across five Marinite grades (A, C, I, M, and P) available while supplies last. For buyers who need a long-term supply, AWMCO stocks Super Firetemp, a Johns Manville calcium silicate board that replaces Marinite in most applications, with monthly restocking. Both products are available in full sheets and pre-cut 12"×12" squares.

What is Marinite?

Marinite is a structural calcium silicate insulation board developed for high-temperature industrial applications. It is non-asbestos, non-combustible, and machinable — it can be cut, drilled, and fabricated with standard woodworking tools. Marinite boards are rated ASTM E84 Flame 0 / Smoke 0, and most grades carry published electrical insulation data, making them a common specification for enclosures and electrical housings operating at elevated temperatures.

What is Marinite made of?

Marinite is a calcium silicate board — a composite of calcium, silica, and reinforcing fibers, formed into rigid boards under heat and pressure. It contains no asbestos and no gypsum. The result is a dimensionally stable board that maintains structural integrity and insulating performance at temperatures up to 1500°F, depending on grade.

What is Marinite used for?

Marinite is used across industrial and commercial applications wherever non-combustible structural insulation is required. Common applications include fire door cores and assemblies, oven and kiln housings, furnace wall liners, welding and torch protection panels, marine fire insulation, electrical enclosures, and aerospace ground support equipment.

Marinite Grades Available from AWMCO

AWMCO stocks five Marinite grades sourced from BNZ Materials. All are final, non-restocking inventory — when current stock is sold, it will not be replenished.

Marinite® A 65 pcf 1500°F Structural, molten aluminum contact Limited — Call
Marinite® C 54 pcf 1400°F Fire doors, enclosures Limited — Call
Marinite® I 46 pcf ≈1350–1400°F Oven housings, fire doors Limited — Buy Now

BNZ Materials Has Closed Their Production Facility — What Marinite Buyers Need to Know

BNZ Materials, the sole manufacturer of the Marinite product line, has permanently ceased its Marinite production operations. There is no alternative manufacturer of Marinite — the brand is discontinued. Buyers who have historically sourced Marinite from BNZ distributors or directly are now competing for a finite pool of remaining inventory.

What happens when Marinite stock runs out?

When AWMCO's remaining BNZ inventory sells through, Marinite will no longer be available from any source. Buyers who need ongoing supply of calcium silicate board in the same density and temperature range will need to qualify a replacement product. AWMCO recommends Super Firetemp as the primary ongoing alternative — it is stocked monthly and covers most Marinite application requirements.

How long is Marinite stock available?

AWMCO cannot guarantee how long current Marinite inventory will last. Demand has increased significantly since BNZ's production facility closure announcement. Buyers who have immediate or near-term project requirements should order now. For long-term or recurring supply, transitioning to Super Firetemp or another calcium silicate insulation is strongly recommended.

Marinite vs. Super Firetemp — Grade by Grade Comparisons

AWMCO is currently working to publish detailed specification comparisons for each Marinite grade against its closest Super Firetemp equivalent.

Frequently asked questions about Marinite

What is Marinite insulation board?

Marinite is a non-asbestos calcium silicate insulation board manufactured by BNZ Materials. It is used in fire doors, oven housings, furnace linings, and structural fire protection applications. Marinite is available in five density grades — A, C, I, M, and P — rated for service temperatures from 1200°F to 1500°F depending on grade. BNZ Materials has permanently closed their production facility, and Marinite is no longer being manufactured.

Is Marinite still available to buy?

Yes — AWMCO stocks remaining BNZ Marinite inventory across multiple grades. This is final inventory and will not be replenished once sold. AWMCO also stocks Super Firetemp, a Johns Manville calcium silicate board that replaces Marinite in most applications and is available with monthly restocking.

What is the best replacement for Marinite?

Super Firetemp, manufactured by Johns Manville, is the recommended replacement for most Marinite grades. It is a calcium silicate insulation board meeting ASTM C656 Type II standards, available in five density grades from 20 to 55 pcf, and rated for service temperatures to 1700°F–1800°F. AWMCO stocks Super Firetemp with monthly restocking. See the grade-by-grade comparison pages above for specific Marinite-to-Super Firetemp equivalencies.

What is the difference between Marinite A, C, I, M, and P?

The five Marinite grades differ primarily in density and maximum service temperature. Marinite A (65 pcf, 1500°F) is the densest grade and is suitable for molten aluminum contact applications. Marinite C (54 pcf, 1400°F) and Marinite I (46 pcf, ~1350-1400°F) are mid-density structural boards for fire doors and enclosures. Marinite M (46 pcf, 1200°F) is a general-purpose structural grade. Marinite P (60 pcf, 1200°F) is a high-load structural panel. Contact AWMCO to confirm availability of each grade.

Does Marinite contain asbestos?

No. Modern Marinite calcium silicate boards are non-asbestos. Older Marinite products manufactured before approximately 1980 may have contained asbestos — if you are working with legacy materials, verify the manufacturing date before handling. All Marinite inventory stocked by AWMCO is non-asbestos.

Can AWMCO cut Marinite or Super Firetemp tocustom sizes?
