Marinite® A is a high-hardness calcium silicate insulation with a nominal density of 65 pcf (1041 kg/m3). It is an inorganic, non-combustible, high-temperature insulation specifically engineered for conveying, containing, handling, and forming molten aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. It can be used in systems operating up to 1500°F (816°C). Marinite A is made primarily of micro silica, hydrothermally-produced binders and reinforcing fibers. This product is off-white, essentially dust-free, contains no asbestos, mercury or lead, and maintains clean surfaces that won't contaminate molten metal.

  • Performance and Testing

Marinite A is tested to verify high strength, dimensional stability, and durability in molten aluminum service environments. Physical properties such as modulus of rupture, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity are determined using accepted industry test methods, while high-temperature soak testing confirms the material’s low shrinkage and stability under prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures typical of aluminum processing operations.

Applications

Applications include components used to convey, contain, and control molten aluminum and other non-ferrous metals in casting and metal-handling systems. Marinite® A is commonly used to fabricate floats, spouts, stopper pins, dams, baffles, distribution boxes, filter boxes, launders, troughs, and head boxes. Its high strength, low shrinkage at molten aluminum temperatures, and excellent machinability also make it well suited for transition plates, hot-top rings, and working linings in low-energy aluminum die-casting holding furnaces.

Installation and Fabrication

Marinite A can be easily fabricated using standard woodworking or machining tools and can be drilled, cut, and shaped to produce a wide variety of components. The material’s high strength and toughness provide excellent machinability and allow finished parts to be installed using common mechanical fastening methods such as screws, bolts, or clamps.
